How to Assemble a Lanair Waste Oil Heater

Tools and Materials:

  • Forklift
  • Socket wrench set
  • Pipe wrench
  • Thread seal compound
  • Pipe dope
  • Level
  • Screwdriver

Steps:

  1. Inspect and Unpack:
    • Upon delivery, inspect each component for visible damage before signing the freight bill. Contact Lanair for a replacement if you find any broken or damaged parts.
    • Unpack all components and lay them out. Ensure all lines and fittings are free of debris and burrs.
  2. Prepare the Tank:
    • Bolt all four tank legs to the floor before filling the tank or installing the heater. Place the tank in a protected area away from traffic and with enough space for installation and maintenance.
  3. Position the Heater:
    • Use the forklift to center the heater on top of the tank platform. The front of the unit is indicated on top of the platform.
    • Locate the four holes on the bottom of the platform and attach the heater using the provided screws.
  4. Connect the Fuel Line:
    • Remove the fuel line from inside the tank legs and insert the upper legs into the lower legs.
  5. Install Drain and Ball Valve:
    • Determine which side of the tank drain will be used and install a ½" closed nipple to the drain hole.
    • Install the ½" brass ball valve to the nipple, then install a ½" pipe plug into the end of the ball valve.
    • Install a ½" pipe plug into the hole on the opposite side of the tank.
  6. Attach Check Valve and Strainer:
    • Attach the brass check valve included in the heater accessory kit to the bottom of the pickup tube assembly. The arrow on the check valve must point up in the direction of oil flow.
    • Attach a ½" elbow to the check valve.
    • Attach the suction line strainer included in the heater accessory kit to the ½" elbow. Apply pipe dope on all suction line fittings to prevent leaks.
  7. Connect Overflow and Fuel Supply Lines:
    • Connect the overflow line to the T on the regulator.
    • Connect the copper line from "P" to the pump and from "B" to the burner. Refer to the installation manual for specific instructions.
    • Some local ordinances may require venting the fuel supply tank to the outside and above the roofline. Check your local codes.
  8. Electrical:
    • All wiring must comply with the National Electric Code, state, and local codes and be wired by a qualified electrician.
  9. Chimney and Damper:
    • The chimney may connect to the top or side of the heater. Refer to the installation manual for specific instructions for your model.
    • The barometric damper may be mounted horizontally or vertically. Ensure the angle gate pins are horizontal for proper operation.
    • To prevent drawing of exhaust gasses into the building, keep the barometric draft control at least 24” from the heater exhaust fan.

Important Notes:

  1. When making plumbing connections, use the thread seal compound included in the plumbing kit on all joints. Do not use teflon tape.
  2. Do not modify or add elbows to the suction line. Improper installation will damage the heater and void the warranty.
  3. If installing an optional metering pump, refer to the manual for specific instructions.
  4. The MX series features spring-loaded locking louvers. Tilt louvers forward or backward until desired position is obtained.
  5. The room thermostat can be placed anywhere within the heated space.

This guide provides a general overview of the installation process. Always consult the installation manual and local codes for specific instructions and safety information. If you have further questions, contact Lanair customer service at 888-370-6531 for assistance.
